With a 5 Piece line-up of 2 guitars, bass, drums and vocals, together with a backline of high quality instruments, amps and effects purchased with cash earned from gigging up and down the country, you can tell from the first listen that their sound is very important to them. At present 9Lies are in the final 3 of the battle of the bands at ODowds in Newry (final to be held 5th October 2005), out of an original list of 45. They have had a track played on Belfast radio station Cool Fm in the past month. That coupled with the upcoming global battle of the band gigs, and their new found residency (home) at the INF in Warrenpoint, have helped make this a great year for the band. There is also an Audition on the way with RTE television in Dublin. Only the future knows how far they will go, but the material is excellent, differing extensively from most other local bands where one song sounds pretty much like the next, 9Lies have something to say and spend the time and effort making sure each song has that catch to keep peoples attention, yet without creating that prolonged monotonous humm. So far the response from the public at every 9Lies gig appears to be a big thumbs up to their brand of melodic up-tempo indie rock, right down to their soft subtle rock ballads. All tracks are recorded and produced by the band themselves in their home studio by lead vocalist and cousin of Dublin singer / song writer Damien Rice, Steve Mann. Catch them live if you can!
